The facts about the group

Who or What is Raynet Ireland ?
Raynet Ireland- The Radio Amateur's Emergency Network in Ireland is a voluntary organisation made up of licensed radio operators who pledge their time and skills to provide cross border communications facilities in times of need.
We only operate at the request of the emergency or user services in either Northern Ireland or within the Republic of Ireland. This could be for example as part of a natural disaster plan or as part of a large organised event to help co-ordinate local voluntary medical and emergency services.
How are we funded?
We are a non profit making voluntary organisation. We do not charge for our time nor skills. We have however been awarded a Lottery Grant by Awards for All, the organisation responsible for distributing small National Lottery grants in the UK. This allowed us to obtain equipment, and much needed training to enable our group to be ready to assist in any circumstances in the future. We also from time to time are given donations by event organisers who use our services in conjunction with medical services. These funds help to offset any expenses our members may incur whilst on exercise with the group i.e petrol, food etc.
Who is in Charge?
Our group is a voluntary organisation which is guided by means of a constitution which was drawn up and voted into service by members. Each year we have an annual general meeting (AGM) to keep all members up to date with the business of the group throughout the term. A committee, which is elected every two years makes decisions as to how the group's affairs are run. We are also affiliated to both RSGB ( Radio Society of Great Britain) and IRTS (Irish Radio Transmitter Society) who provide us with valuable information necessary to keep our group operational.
Are members insured whilst on duty?
Raynet Ireland has public liability insurance cover for all its members whilst on duty. This is supplied via Affiliation to the RSGB and covers us for operations both in Northern Ireland and The Irish Republic. Most if not all the organisers of the events we use for training, also provide some sort of equipment cover in case of theft or damage at their events.
