Raynet Ireland have joined forces with our sister group Raynet NI to provide representation at the Belfast Resilience Forum, an emergency communications steering body run by Belfast City Council on behalf of the Emergency Services in the greater Belfast area. This body consists of members of the Fire, Police and Ambulance services along with N.I.E, Translink, BT, Rivers Authority, Ordinance Survey, Eastern Health Board, and the Cabinet Emergency Planning Unit. Together the forum are preparing an action plan to prepare Belfast for any disasters whether natural or otherwise. Raynet are set to play a contingency role, providing communications where necessary in the event of failure in mainstream networks. We hope to be able to participate in other resilience forums within the province, especially those which cover border areas.

On Monday 9th January 2005 representatives of our committee went to the offices of the Department of Communication, Marine and Natural Resources in Dublin, and met with the Chief Technical advisor to the Minister. After a brief presentation about the role we could play in the Irish republic, we were satisfied that the Irish government are now fully aware of the abilities of our group, and agreed to help us make contact with the various council bodies responsible for emergency planning in the border areas.

A new "Members Support" area has been added to the website. This will allow all members access to documents and publications such as our training manual etc. Please contact a member of the committee to find our how to access this area.

The diary of events for 2008 is now available in the Members Area

There has been some significant advances in the involvement of Raynet with the Emergency Services in Northern Ireland. In order to comply with looming legislation on Civil Contingency in the province and recognising the potential of our abilities, both the Fire & Rescue Service and the Ambulance service have installed radios capable of direct contact with Raynet in their control centres. Belfast City Council's Emergency control centre, which is responsible for evacuation centres etc. have also done likewise. These will allow the activation of Raynet in the event of failure in main stream communication systems.
